Regarder les oiseaux / Françoise Pétrovitch

Pendant le confinement, nous avons suivi sur Instagram les dessins que Françoise Pétrovitch faisait tous les jours des oiseaux qu’elle regardait à travers sa fenêtre. Nous avons contacté Françoise pour lui proposer de faire une édition autour de ces oiseaux, une centaine en tout ! Le résultat de notre collaboration est un coffret à la fois boîte de spécimen quand il est fermé, et mini-théâtre quand il est ouvert. Les oiseaux dans chaque coffret – sept dessins originaux – peuvent être mis en scène, comme des fleurs dans un ikebana, l’art Japonais d’arrangement floral. On regarde cet arrangement d’oiseaux vivants et morts à travers un morceau de verre soufflé à la bouche, ajoutant les irrégularités des fenêtres dans les vielles maisons.

L’édition est limitée à 17 jeux d'oiseaux uniques (A à Q). Chaque jeu comporte une ménagerie de 7 dessins originaux d’oiseaux rassemblés par l’artiste, dans un coffret à fenêtre fabriqué à la main.

During the lockdown, we followed Françoise Pétrovitch on Instagram, where she posted daily drawings of birds that she saw from her window. We contacted Françoise and proposed making and edition with these birds – more than a hundred in all ! The result of our collaboration is a box that is both a specimen box when closed, and a mini-theater when opened. The birds in each box – seven original drawings – can be staged, like flowers in an ikebana, the Japanese art of floral arrangement. We look at this arrangement of living and dead birds through a piece of hand blown glass, which adds the irregularities of windows in old houses.

The edition is limited to 17 unique sets of birds (A to Q). Each set includes a menagerie of 7 original drawings of birds grouped together by the artist, in a handmade windowed box.
